Imperial wine-treasure vaults

The focal point of the Wine Treasure Vaults is dessert wines from the crown countries of the monarchy such as the Tokay and Madeira wines, much liked and appreciated by Empress Elisabeth. These were used for banquets, hunting-dinners and for private meals of the Imperial family.

The central element of the wine collection is the Madeira wines of the great years from 1795 to 1916 as well as Tokay wines.

Some collector's bottles in the Wine Treasure Vaults as well as the award winning dessert wines of our days together with Imperial brandies are offered as gifts in the wine-shop of the Wine Treasure Vaults.

Personal wine labels with dedications or photographs are available which can bestow an individual character to the gifts.

In order to complete and give a realistic view of the feeling of the Imperial times visitors can see table items and original menus from the imperial household in the showcases of the treasury within the Wine Treasure Vault.

The guests can also sample the range of cuisine of the Habsburg monarchy and what was appreciated by the Imperial family - naturally every dish cooked according to Imperial recipes; e.g. the Coronation Meal of 6th June 1867 and the Silver wedding anniversary of the Imperial couple on 24th April 1879.

The programme of events from the event restaurant also offers menus from the great banquets of the imperial couple, impeccably arranged as a culinary speciality for important occasions, including courses chosen by the monarch in person for intimate family dinners.
